Danny's Story
On a blustery, snowy night in December 1992, little Danny Potocki was one sick kid. The Potocki family was devastated. Only four years old with a rare form of leukemia.
But there were friends and, as friends will, they rallied around Pete and Cathy Potocki. They provided warmth, love and emotional support to let the parents know they were not alone. But bills began to mount at an incredible rate, and clearly the Potockis would not be able to keep up.
Friends and their friends started raising money to help out. They started with bake sales. Someone came up with the idea of a mid-winter softball game. Cops, firefighters and teachers volunteered. In order to keep the funds raised in an appropriate place, the Knights of Columbus provided their account and referred to it as "the Danny fund".
The Potockis got through the winter of '93 and then the spring with the continual help of their friends and some people they didn't even know. In June, Danny was stabilized.
